Fosters

Foster's was created by two Irish American brothers, William M and Ralph R Foster, who arrived in Melbourne from New York in 1886. The brothers began brewing Foster's Lager in November 1888. It was made available to the public from February 1889. The product was first exported in 1901, when bottles were sent to Australian combatants in the Boer War. In 1907 the company merged to form Carlton United Breweries. Only available in bottles, Foster's Lager was considered to be CUB's premium brand. Tim Foster's Lager was first imported into the UK in 1971. It was launched in the US in 1972. From 1981, the brand was brewed under licence in the UK by the Courage brewing group. Courage was acquired in 1986 by Australian businessman John Elliott. Perceiving the increasing popularity of imported Foster's Lager, it was decided to commence local brewing of the product by Courage.

Kronenbourg 1664

Kronenbourg 1664 is the most sold French beer in the world and the market leader for high-end premium beers. It was named after the year the Hatt family, the founders of Brasseries Kronenbourg, first started commercial brewing. Kronenbourg is the fifth oldest beer brand in the world that still exists today. Its golden highlights and delicate bitterness come from selecting the best hops, the “Strisselspalt”, and the unique know-how of Brasseries Kronenbourg’s master brewers for over 300 years. 1664 is ideal with a meal on the terrace, as an aperitif or simply for the pleasure. In 2008 Carlsberg Group became owners of the Kronenbourg 1664 brand as part of the acquisition of Scottish and Newcastle. Geographic expansion and proposition has led the brand to a leading position in the International Premium beer market.

Strongbow

Strongbow is a dry cider launched in England by H.P. Bulmer in 1962. It is named after the Cambro-Norman knight Richard de Clare, later Earl of Pembroke, nicknamed "Strongbow" for relying heavily on Welsh archers during campaigns in Ireland, where at the time the Irish had few bows and relied on javelins. It was initially marketed as "the strong cider for men". By 1970, it was the second highest selling cider in the world after its Bulmer's stablemate Woodpecker. By 2001, Strongbow was among the top ten drinks by sales in English and Welsh pubs and bars. In 2003 Bulmers was purchased by Scottish & Newcastle, who in turn were taken over by Heineken in 2008. In January 2011, Heineken announced their intention to take the Strongbow brand global.
